Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 22, 2026
Chordline ("Chordline", "we", "us") is a puzzle game for iOS, operated by Jacob Ko as an individual developer. This policy explains what information the app handles and your choices. We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
Information we handle
- No account information. The app has no sign-in of any kind, so we hold no name, email address or password.
- Your game progress, in your own iCloud. Which stages you have cleared, your best score and best time per stage, stars earned, attempt count, and the dates you first cleared and last played each stage. This is stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud database (Apple CloudKit) so it follows your devices. It goes to your own Apple account — we cannot read it, and it is not sent to us or to anyone else. Turning iCloud off for Chordline in your device settings stops the sync.
- Your settings, such as sound and haptics, stored on your device.
- Purchases. The ad-removal purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see or store card numbers or any payment details; the app only reads from Apple whether the purchase is active.
- No analytics. Chordline contains no analytics or crash-reporting SDK. No usage data, event log or device profile is sent to us.
Advertising
Chordline shows full-screen ads between stages, and an optional ad you can choose to watch in exchange for a hint. These are served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, Google may collect and process device identifiers (such as your device's advertising ID), your IP address, and general technical and usage information. Google's handling of advertising data is described at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Before any ad is requested, players in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked to choose how their data may be used for advertising. That choice can be changed at any time from Settings › Ad Privacy Options. Separately, iOS asks whether Chordline may track you across other apps and websites; if you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised using that identifier. You can change that answer in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.
Removing ads
Settings offers a one-time purchase that removes ads. It is not a subscription. The entitlement is tied to your Apple account, so "Restore Purchases" brings it back on a new device.
Service providers
- Apple — iCloud/CloudKit sync of your game progress (into your own private database) and all purchase processing.
- Google AdMob — advertising, as described above.
We use no other service provider, and we run no server of our own.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. There is no account data to share.
Retention and deletion
Your progress stays until you remove it. Settings › Reset Progress deletes all of your stage progress, and because the data lives in your own iCloud, the deletion carries to your other devices. Deleting the app removes its on-device data; iCloud-held data can also be removed from your device's iCloud storage settings.
Children
Chordline is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The game has no chat, no user-generated content and no social features.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted. Your progress is held in your own private iCloud database, which only your Apple account can read.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you may request access to, or correction of, any personal information we hold about you. Because Chordline has no accounts, in practice we hold none. Contact admin@jacobko.app.
Changes
We may update this policy; we will post the new version here and update the date above.
